Driver's License, Testing Centers & License Plates

Driver's License:

You will need your current valid State Driver's License, proof of Wisconsin residency, Social Security Number, and proof of signature. You will have to take an eye exam, but a written or driving test is not required. No appointments are needed and fees for the basic license are $18.00.

If you have lost your Driver's License:
You are required to show two identifications to prove who you are with your signature. The fee for duplicate license is $4.00.

License Plates:
According to the new law of September 1, 1998, automobiles, trucks, dual farm and dual vehicles must have a temporary license plate.  To find locations that issue temporary plates, please follow this link.

VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters can register to vote at City Hall, 800 Borner Street North

        Application for Absentee Ballot (form)

Regularly scheduled elections are held on the first Tuesday of April and November in City Hall. Registration is required for the first time someone votes. This can be done before or on election day in City Hall.


DOG & CAT LICENSES

In order to obtain an annual cat or dog license, please come to City Hall, spayed pets, $18.00 for non-neutered, non-spayed pets.  Please request your vet to provide you with a copy of your pet's certificate of rabies vaccination before you come up to city hall to buy the license.  You may also request your vet to fax  a copy of your pet's certificate of rabies vaccination to city hall, at #262-5764.  

You can also mail a request for a pet license; please make sure to send the current certificate of rabies vaccination from your vet with the appropriate fee.  We will then mail the pet license to you. 

The following information must be included on the certificate of rabies vaccination:

bullet Name of cat or dog 
bullet Color
bullet Breed
bullet Vaccination serial number, manufacturer, date pet was vaccinated/date vaccination expires
bullet Name, current address and telephone # of pet owner

(IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS INFORMATION ON YOUR CERTIFICATE OF RABIES VACCINATION, WE CANNOT ISSUE A DOG OR CAT LICENSE TO YOU.  YOU  MUST OBTAIN THE CORRECT INFORMATION FROM YOUR VET.  WE CANNOT ACCEPT HANDWRITTEN VETERINARIAN.  THIS IS STATE LAW.)


COMPOST SITE

THE PRESCOTT COMPOST SITE OPEN TWO FULL WEEKS - MAY 3RD - MAY 19TH  8:00 A.M. TO 7:00 P.M..  Regular hours are:  MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS,  and SATURDAYS 8 AM to 7 PM.  THESE HOURS WILL BE IN EFFECT THROUGH FALL, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.  Please check this website and/or watch the local newspaper or check the local public bulletin boards (M & I Bank and Ptacek's IGA) for updated site information and hours. The compost site is located on 602nd Avenue - 3 miles east of Prescott.  There is a sign very near the turn-off on Highway 10 (approximately 1 mile from Prescott).  If you are headed  east on Highway 10, turn left on 620th Avenue and follow signs.  If you are headed west on Highway 10 towards Prescott, turn right on to 620th  Ave, follow signs.
 

BOAT LAUNCH

The Boat Launch is located on Front Street.  Permits can be obtained at the Municipal Building.  All persons using  the public boat launch must have a permit or pay a daily rate each time they use the boat launch. The annual fee is $25.00 for boat owners residing within the city limits and $35.00 for non-residents boat owners. The Boat Launch does not allow parking from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.

NON-RESIDENTS are defined as:  living outside the Prescott City Limits.   FOR EXAMPLE, if you live in an outer-lying area such as Oak Grove or Clifton, you are considered a non-resident, because your local taxes do not pay for City of Prescott services. If you do not need to purchase a seasonal permit, you must pay the daily rate at the boat launch.  If you are a non-resident, we accept mail-in registrations also.  Please provide the name and address of the boat owner, the size and make of the boat, registration number, and $35.00 fee, and we will process your request and mail your launch permit to you immediately upon receipt and processing.


PUBLIC FISHING DOCK

A public handicapped accessible fishing dock is maintained in Prescott. A Wisconsin fishing license is required.


PUBLIC BEACH

The public beach is located on Lake Street on the St. Croix River.  There are lifeguards on duty during the summer season.  The hours the beach is open and lifeguards are on duty will be posted.


OTHER LICENSES

Other licenses such as a Massage Therapist License, Temporary Class "B" Liquor License, Variance Applications for Property, Schedule for Appointment of Agent by Corporation/Nonprofit Organization or Limited Liability Company, Renewal of Alcohol Beverage Licenses and others can be obtained at City Hall.
