UPDATE (5/11/2023) - The City has heard from the contractor that they will not be starting until July 24. They will still have to meet the completion date of November 24.

The City Council approved the Locust Street reconstruction project to go to bid at their Monday, March 13 meeting.  The project will consist of sanitary sewer rehabilitation of existing sanitary sewer, replacement of existing watermain and all water laterals, addition of new storm sewer connecting with adjacent streets, reconstruction of the street itself from Orange Street to Walter Street, and a 5’ sidewalk from Kinnickinnic Street to Walnut Street.  The project will also include increased pedestrian safety at the intersection of Kinninnickic and Locust and the reconstruction of driveway aprons.

The City has also included a bid alternate to add sidewalk from Walnut Street all the way along Locust to Walter Street.  The overall project is currently estimated at $1.8M.  The bids for the project will be opened on April 5 and will be brought to Council for review at their April 10 meeting.  The current plan is to have the project start in May and be completed by the end of November 2023.  The City completed borrowing for the project in February of 2023, which included funding for the reconstruction of Elm and Washington Street to be done in 2024.

As part of the project the City is also including the mill and overlay of Orange Street from Broad Street up to Elm Street including the public parking lot.
